Venere o huésped tu piadoso celo
si conmovido no acompaña en esta
máquina funeral, pompa funesta,
el común excesivo desconsuelo.

Del magno vencedor el frágil velo
cuya victoria tanto a España cuesta,
y hace aquí, su memoria al tiempo opuesta
alma es del mundo, el alma luz del Cielo.

El mármol incapaz de los Trofeos
que a sus Triunfos la Fama dirigía,
sólo el nombre admitió que esculpió el llanto.

Cupo en el y en el Orbe aun no cabía
terminen su ambición nuestros deseos
a tanta ruina, a desengaño tanto.
