¿Qué son los celos? El mayor tormento;
áspid que del veneno se alimenta,
con que a otros mata; infierno que atormenta
la memoria, el discurso, el pensamiento.

Quimeras admitir, abrazar viento,
hacerse de la parte de su afrenta;
curar el mal con lo que más se aumenta,
negarse en la experiencia al escarmiento.

De la menor sospecha que le llama,
el crédito fiar, que el juicio altera;
relámpago sin luz, fuego sin llama.

Si esto los celos son, con ser quimera,
¿qué será un desengaño? ¡Ay de quien ama!
¡Ay de aquella otra vez que aquí le espera!
