Crédito fue de la naturaleza
tu Oriente, pues de ti su pompa fía;
tu muerte providencia, que temía
sus dones apurar en tu largueza.

Lauro más inmortal de tu cabeza
logra tu Fama que tu Monarquía:
aquésta feneció tu fatal día,
aquélla, siempre a coronarte empieza.

Grande excepción te opones al olvido,
honor de Macedonia, que adquiriste
con cuanto abraza un mundo sólo un nombre.

Por darte a ti, moriste agradecido
a los dioses; envidia suya fuiste,
que entonces creyó Roma que eras hombre.
