Filis, en cuyo amante muerte fiera
robó más alma que dejó a su vida,
y de su esposo la mortal herida
en huérfanas reliquias hoy venera,

vio un retrato, una imagen lisonjera,
de verdadero amor sombra fingida,
y, en viéndola, a consuelo introducida,
conoció no ser alma verdadera.

Escrupulosa en ver que se divierte,
«¡Ay! -dijo-, amante amado, no me atrevo
a ver tu sombra, pues de ti me privo.

Tan toda el alma concedí a tu muerte
que ya no he de poder sentir de nuevo
ni aun el dolor de no mirarte vivo.»
