¿Qué importa al Mongibelo estar nevado
si en fuego oculto las entrañas arde?
Lo mismo que el amor tiene de alarde
halla de menos en lo venerado.

Más dura en la república del prado
la rosa que el cultor descubre tarde
que aquella a quien avisa que se guarde
la primera experiencia del arado.

No dura la belleza un solo instante
más que el deseo, y el deseo miente
al punto que pasó de la experiencia.

Así dice el recato vigilante,
que es desdicha morir como accidente
y necedad morir por diligencia.
