Creyó el Jordán que vez segunda oía
la voz de Juan, que en vos determinaba;
que, a pesar de distancias, enfrenaba
a iguales pasmos su corriente fría.
Pudo dudar, pues os oyó este día,
y pues a Juan oyó, cuál más obraba,
quien entonces las peñas ablandaba,
o quien hoy corazones persuadía.
Al cisne del Jordán imitáis tanto
que negras plumas, por quitar la duda,
os viste el cielo, con celoso intento.
Pero quedóse con la duda el canto,
y vos con el aplauso de la duda,
desmintiendo a las plumas el acento.
