Sabio Marqués, con quien Apolo parte
el laurel que corona numeroso,
porque otro medio círculo glorioso
reserva a sus previstas glorias Marte;
decidme: ¿por qué siempre amor reparte
la pena, el llanto y el desdén celoso
a los suyos? Si amor, ¿cómo es odioso?
Si de arte ofende en la deidad, ¿hay arte?
Confieso que al dolor tal vez prefiere
el gusto, pero ¿cuándo sus instantes
reducir a un contento supo el gusto?
¿Por qué es ciego el amor que apunta e hiere,
y no se llaman ciegos los amantes
que le siguen, sabiendo que es injusto?
