Ya falta el sol, que quieto el mar y el cielo
niegan unidos la distante arena:
un ave de metal el aire estrena,
que vuela en voz cuanto se niega en vuelo.

Hijo infeliz del africano suelo
es, que hurtado al rigor de la cadena,
hoy música traición hace a su pena
(si pena puede haber donde hay consuelo).

Suene tu voz (menos que yo), forzado,
pues tu clarín es sucesor del remo
y alternas el gemido con el canto.

Mientras yo al mar de Venus condenado,
de un extremo de amor paso a otro extremo
y, porque alivia, aun se me niega el llanto.
