Fénix divino que en mortal oriente
desvanece en luz tu sepultura,
y heredada en sí misma tu hermosura
burla nuestro dolor y tu occidente.
La pompa funeral, el llanto miente,
pues no estaba tu ser en tu figura:
nada vive quien vive lo que dura,
ni ha menester morir un accidente.
Faltó tu imperio, amor, faltó tu nido
en Amarilis, y aun después porfías
a usar en los efectos tus crueldades.
¡Oh modo de matar jamás oído!
¡Viéndose ya el amor sin tiranías,
a matarnos empieza con piedades!
