Huésped, no yace aquí, falta severo
aquel que, con doctísima experiencia,
al mismo Apolo que le dio la ciencia
sólo en tiempo le deja ser primero.

Porque durase de la muerte el fuero,
incompatible ya con su presencia,
faltó, ni se cumpliera la sentencia
a no estar él de parte de su acero.

No en humana salud, que al tiempo miente,
en vida sí, que el tiempo no acabase,
pudo parar su idea esclarecida.

Lloremos, pues, de envidia en su occidente,
que primero labró, que nos faltase
a todos la salud y a sí la vida.
