¡Señor, que viera un pedernal helado
sangre de fuego de un acero herido!
¡Y que a la cera el bronce endurecido
hurte obediencias, del calor tratado!
¿Qué tiemble un monte al rayo sospechado,
y el hombre no le sienta, de él herido!
Pues, si se advierte, es rayo sin ruido
dentro del pecador cada pecado.
¿Qué villano, a quien víbora inclemente
el pecho le ocupó mientras dormía,
despierto, no se hurta a su veneno?
Huye veloz, ¡oh planta delincuente!
Huye, porque del rayo de este día
podrá la permisión ser tardo trueno.
