Este morir, esta postrera suerte
es imagen del miedo repetida;
en cuanto a ser imagen tan temida,
pues la imaginación la hace tan fuerte.
¿Cuándo en, pues, el morir? (porque se acierte).
¿Al querer espirar? No, que aún hay vida.
¿Es cuándo el alma está ya desasida?
Eso es estar ya muerto, que no es muerte.
¿Acaso es el morir aquel instante
del aliento postrero? ¿Es aquel punto
que el último suspiro en quietud trueca?
No, porque todo punto es semejante
al vivir cierto o al estar difunto.
Pues, ¿cuándo es el morir? Cuando se peca.
