Dos naufragios se oponen igualmente
a aquella que en beldad venció a Narciso,
cuando en las aguas imitarle quiso,
dando a sus soles líquido occidente.

Licio la ve en el mar menos presente
que en sí, donde arde en golfo más preciso.
Siente no socorrerla, ¡oh ciego aviso!,
donde la mira y no donde la siente.

Mas, Licio, bien tu afecto se gobierna;
donde puede morir no darla ayuda
siente su amor, no siente como ciego.

Que en tu pecho, aunque ardiente, será eterna;
en agua sí que vivirá con duda,
porque no hay fénix de agua y le hay de fuego.
