La voz a Italia, cuando el eco a España,
fía el sagrado cisne que venero.
Dúdase dónde se escuchó primero,
si el eco es voz, pues como voz engaña.
No es hoy la maravilla más extraña
de Urbano, que le admite el orbe entero;
ni ser mayor, por lo mayor pondero;
poder crecer en su mayor hazaña.
Y tú, Gabriel, que extiendes la armonía
del Rey del Tibre por los campos míos,
canta, mayor que Orfeo en tu trabajo.
Que de Orfeo es lo más que se atendía
parar las ondas, no mezclar los ríos,
y tú juntaste el Tibre con el Tajo.
