Esa mustia beldad, que enamorado
tuvo al abril su verde lozanía,
fragante joya, que al romper del día
sacó al primavera en el tocado;

Substituta del sol, astro esmaltado,
que igualmente alumbraba e influía,
y en su verde apacible tiranía,
por reina se hizo coronar del prado;

a mano descortés, segur villana.
Rinde cuanto esplendor y pompa adquiere,
pagando como culpa el nacer rosa.

¡Oh! no se fíe la belleza humana:
que es breve flor, que cuando nace muere,
mucho más que por frágil, por hermosa.
