Si Francia está gloriosa y arrogante
por tener doce pares de la Fama,
si Aníbal a Cartago la encarama
pues dio en guerras de sí prueba bastante,

si África con Cipion está pujante
pues en las armas su valor derrama,
hoy noble Capitán la misma fama
y el enemigo triste quien sois cante.

Si Parnaso es tenido y reputado
por ser morada de las musa nueve,
por eso vos también sois alabado,

si alguno ver quisiere si es quien debe,
en este curiosísimo tratado
su grande ingenio y mucho saber pruebe,

que el Capitán se atreve
en aspereza tal de la montaña
dar verso de dulzura tan extraña.
