A la ribera de la mar sentada,
sobre el sepulcro de Ayax Telamón,
la Fortaleza estaba despechada,
moviendo contra Grecia indignación.

Los cabellos de hierro y la acerada
veste rompía al llanto y turbación;
la gente se alteró, y aunque espantada,
quiso de ella entender su alteración.

Respondió, vuelto el rostro a los troyanos:
«Aun por haceros Grecia mayor mengua,
contra Ayax por Ulises sentenció,

desposeyendo aquellas fuertes manos,
y entregando a la vil y flaca lengua
las armas con que Aquiles os venció».
