Gasto en males la vida, y amor crece,
en males crece amor y allí se cría,
esfuerza el alma, y a hacer se ofrece,
de la pena costumbre y compañía.

No me espanto de vida que padece
tan brava servidumbre y que porfía;
mas espantome cómo no enloquece
con el bien que ve en otros cada día.

En dura ley, en conocido engaño,
huelga el triste, Señora, de vivir,
y tú, que le persigues la paciencia.

¡Oh cruda tema! ¡Oh áspera sentencia!
que por fuerza me fuerzas a sufrir
los placeres ajenos y mi daño.
