No bastó el daño al fin y estrago fiero
del fuerte muro y del sidonio techo,
y el cuello haber traído al yugo estrecho
de quien tomó al Tesin y al grande Ibero;

sino a un infame Dárdano extranjero,
a quien ¡oh Roma! padre tuyo has hecho,
decir que di rendida el limpio pecho,
y pagué al impío amor injusto fuero.

¿Tanto pudo la envidia? ¿Pudo tanto
la musa de Virgilio mentirosa,
que osó manchar mi nombre esclarecido?

Mas la verdad, mayor que su alto canto,
dirá que menos casta y generosa
Lucrecia fue que la fenisa Dido.
