- LXXII - A don Francisco de Medina

Ya que en vano contrasto al dolor fiero,
y faltándome el bien, crece el tormento,
y la esperanza sin ningún aliento
me olvida, y de remedio desespero,
este desierto puesto sólo quiero,
pues lo aquejó mil veces mi lamento;
que al triste cuerpo, siempre descontento,
sea el sepulcro de su mal postrero.
Si tuvo en vos, Francisco, Amor tirano
tal vez imperio, a lástima movido,
este verso cortad en mi memoria:
«Uno aquí yace que amó firme en vano,
y cuando esperó bien, aborrecido
la vida lo dejó, y huyó su gloria».
