Cubre en oscuro cerco y sombra fría
del cielo puro el resplandor sereno
la húmeda noche, y yo, de dolor lleno,
lloro mi bien perdido y mi alegría.

Ningún alivio en la miseria mía

cuanto en la confusión nublosa peno
padezco en la rosada luz del día.

En otro nuevo Caúcaso enclavado,
mi cuidado mortal y mi deseo
el corazón me comen renovado,

do no pudiera el sucesor de Alceo
librarme del tormento, no cansado,
que excede al del antiguo Prometeo.
