Tú, que alegras el Tebro esclarecido,
y del Betis ondoso el curso ufano
dejas, y el precio antiguo italiano
miras en el sepulcro del olvido,

¿Por ventura, del yugo sacudido,
la cerviz alzas libre, y del tirano
amor en ti desmaya el furor vano,
o en fiero ardor espiras encendido?

Que yo en la patria sin mi Luz me veo
triste, preso, herido, solo, ausente,
y perseguido siempre de un cuidado.

Sin esperanza aviva mi deseo,
y apena de este río a la corriente
descubro el mal que sufro no cansado.
