Fernando, yo surqué con viento lleno
del dulce Amor el grande mar abierto,
y libre de temor, sin buscar puerto,
atravesé de un seno en otro seno.
En medio el curso, se turbo el sereno
cielo, y revuelto todo, el Ponto incierto
rompe mi flaca nave, y ya desierto
de salud, en las ondas voy, ajeno.
Si en esta tempestad es tal mi suerte
que escape de peligro, nunca el fiero
tirano llevará de mí victoria;
mas antes que en olvido cubra Muerte
mi nombre humilde, celebrar espero
del español belígero la gloria.
