Ardió en las llamas de Eta Alcides fiero,
que desdeñó el valor nunca vencido
de su inmortal espíritu encendido,
quedar mortal, sujeto al común fuero;

tal yo, que en la serena lumbre muero
de mi Estrella inflamado, aunque el perdido
dolor me trae mísero, rendido,
eterno en su rigor vivir espero;

mas ¡cuánto desigual es nuestra suerte!
que el veneno acabó su fuerte pecho,
y del error nació su grande gloria;

pero mi luz no se preció en mi muerte,
y yo en sus rayos vivo, incendio hecho;
perpetua ofrezco al tiempo esta memoria.
