Dichoso fue el ardor, dichoso el vuelo
con que, desamparado de la vida,
dio Ícaro en su gloria esclarecida
nombre insigne al salado y hondo suelo.

Y quien despeñó el rayo desde el cielo
en la onda del Eridano encendida,
que llorosa lamenta y afligida
Lampecie, en el hojoso y duro velo.

Pues de uno y otro eterna es la osadía
y el generoso intento, que a la muerte
negaron el valor de sus despojos,

yo, más dichoso en la alta empresa mía,
que hasta el Olimpo me encumbró mi suerte
y ardí vivo en la luz de vuestros ojos.
