Soto, no es justo que tu canto suene,
y honre solo al humilde Dauro frío;
mas digno es del el sacro Betis mío,
que el nombre tuyo en tanta estima tiene.
Las venas de Castalia y de Pirene
rebosarán por ti en su ondoso río,
y vendrá a conocerle señorío
quien fue sepulcro el hijo de Climene.
Aquí es la rica Arabia y el dichoso
nido en que tu inmortal fénix enciende
el fuego que en ti afina su belleza.
Ven al florido asiento y oloroso;
huye el desierto, do su luz se ofende
y de tu excelso ingenio la grandeza.
