En tanto que en el fiero hórrido seno
de la antigua Cartago el estandarte
de España honráis, y al sarraceno Marte
el pecho de temor mostráis ajeno,
yo aquí, do el rico Betis, de honor lleno,
el fértil curso ufano en vueltas parte,
dando de mí al amor la mejor parte,
de mi incierta esperanza me enajeno.
Mi Luz bella y sus lazos y oro canto,
y aunque el valor insigne vuestro admiro,
de lauro a vos no envidio la corona;
que a mayor premio el ánimo levanto
si mi divina Luz, por quien suspiro,
de sus hermosas hebras me corona.
