- CXXXIII - A la muerte de don Luis Ponce de León
Aquí, donde tú yaces sepultado,
oh gloria de León más excelente,
el valor todo yace de Occidente
con envidia de Marte derribado.
No culpes la dureza de tu hado,
que en tierra ajena tu dolor consiente,
pues cuanto ves del austro al oriente
es sepulcro a los fuertes consagrado.
Será eterna en nosotros tu memoria,
y puesto en el dorado y alto asiento,
defenderás mejor tu patrio suelo.
No queda ya a la muerte mayor gloria,
pero queda igualado el sentimiento,
tristeza a España y alegría al cielo!
