Ausente pienso en mi dolor conmigo,
si alguna vez estuve tan contento,
que no diese el cuitoso sentimiento
el lugar que se debe al más amigo;

y hallo al fin en este mal que sigo
que nunca un hora libre de tormento
puede alcanzar; que al cabo el pensamiento
es mi amor contrario y enemigo.

Bien que puedo traer a la memoria
sombras de un bien que descubrí tan vano,
que se despareció luego a mis ojos;

mas esto no me puede causar gloria;
antes da siempre a mi dolor la mano
para que no se acaben mis enojos.
