Amor, ¿para qué vale el sufrimiento
en su pecho enseñado a tanta gloria,
si es todo lo que guarda la memoria
causa de afán al alma, y de tormento?
Porque no pierde triste el flaco aliento
quien perdió, y no en su culpa, la victoria,
y de su dulce bien la alegre historia
vio trocar en eterno sentimiento.
¿Por qué se esfuerza en vano mi esperanza,
y ajeno en luenga ausencia de mi suerte,
me sostiene en dolor y llanto fiero?
Harto es al que padece en tal mudanza
poder honrar su vida con la muerte,
que lentamente llega al fin postrero.
