Temerario pintor, ¿por qué, di, en vano
te cansas en mostrar la hermosura
de la excelsa Heliodora, y la luz pura
y el semblante amoroso y soberano?
Será trabajo el tuyo sobrehumano,
que no debe esperar lo que procura.
¿Mas cuando ofreció el cielo tal ventura
al rudo conseguir de mortal mano?
Si tú, muy confiado en la grandeza
de toda la beldad, que espira en ella,
osares descubrir alguna parte,
pinta la misma imagen de belleza,
y si puede imitar las luces de ella
habrás llegado a perfección de la arte.
