En esta selva hórrida y desierta,
que tiene en temor triste el viento airado,
contemplo, en mis desdichas obstinado,
mi peligroso estado y vida incierta.
Hallo del impío amor la senda abierta,
que descubrió el principio a mi cuidado;
espacio luengo veo y no tratado,
salud siempre difícil, muerte cierta.
No veo árbol ramoso ni desnudo
que no sea mi bella fiera, y siento
cuajárseme la sangre al pecho fría.
¡Dichoso quien su miedo venció, y pudo
contrastar su pasión! Mas el tormento
que sufro no se rinde a mi porfía.
