Esta desnuda playa, esta llanura
de astas y rotas armas mal sembrada,
do el vencedor cayó con muerte airada,
es de España sangrienta sepultura.
Mostró el valor su esfuerzo, mas ventura
negó el suceso y dio a la muerte entrada,
que rehusó dudosa y admirada
del temido furor, la suerte dura.
Venció otomano al español ya muerto,
antes del muerto el vivo fue vencido,
y España y Grecia lloran la victoria,
pero será testigo este desierto
que el español muriendo, no rendido,
llevó de Grecia y Asia el nombre y gloria.
