Tal vez abrasa con vapor fogoso,
tal vez enfría con horror helado,
de la africana fuente desatado
el cristal en el mismo trato ondoso.
Cuando el cielo en la sombra está medroso,
hierve en ardor su curso destemplado,
y cuando yace el sol más inflamado,
corre un invierno de rigor nevoso.
Son tales los milagros en mi pecho,
sujeto y condenado a tu crudeza,
haces, fiero tirano y señor mío,
que estoy en el calor un hielo hecho,
y un fuego de inmortal naturaleza
en la fuerza y vigor del mayor frío.
