La falda y el tendido yerto lado
del abrasado Etna, a do suspira
del preso opreso, y con furor respira
el espantoso Encélado inflamado,

con yerba y verdes árboles ornado
florece, y todo el fuego que con ira
resonando su cumbre excelsa expira,
no ofende al fresco sitio variado;

mas el cruel incendio de mi pecho
consume, aunque pequeña, si aparece
la flor de la esperanza incierta mía.

Ardo todo, y en fuego al fin deshecho,
me rehago en su llama, y siempre crece
con el ardor la fuerza y la porfía.
