Con el puro sereno en campo abierto
vuela mi alado carro, y fresco llega.
El viento arando el golfo; la paz niega
cielo airado, aire adverso, flujo incierto.

Desampara huyendo el mar desierto;
mas el miedo y horror lo aflige y ciega;
noto cruel, que su furor despliega,
las velas rompe, impide entrar el puerto.

Cuando ríe una luz en occidente
que alegra el orbe etéreo, y desfallece
el soplo austrino y cesa el ponto oscuro,

la prora vuelvo, y lejos tardamente
la tierra sola en puntas aparece,
y nunca al puerto arribo que procuro.
