La llama crece y arde, y crece luego
el dolor que mi gloria y bien deshace;
el pecho exhala todo, y se rehace,
cual Ticio, sin hallar algún sosiego.
No sé do alienta Amor, do esfuerza el fuego,
ni de qué pena ya me satisface;
mal me quejo del daño que me hace,
si es cruel, voluntario, ingrato y ciego.
Felice Meleagro, cuya muerte
gastó su ardiente hado; mas ya veo
que renace mi vida en el tormento.
No huyo la aspereza de mi suerte,
aunque sí por la causa la deseo,
la temo por el fiero mal que siento.
