Este lauro que tiene en su corteza
verde escrita la honra de mi pena,
y en él el manso céfiro resuena
mi mal, su resplandor y su belleza;
cuando el sol elevado en más alteza
se vio, me dio en sus hojas sombra llena;
fue el calor blando y la congoja buena,
y entonces me alegraba la aspereza.
Ahora, ¡oh triste hado, avaro cielo!
que deja el sol ardiente el paso abierto,
y todo el mal y daño en mi fortuna,
con llanto eterno y falto de consuelo
miro el lauro, y padezco en el desierto,
por su culpa, el calor que me importuna.
