Aquí do lloro en ti, fiel desierto,
y aquejo con mi llanto el son del río,
vi la luz y belleza y amor mío
en la serena noche al cielo abierto.
Esperé entonces vida, espero, muerto,
sepulcro ahora en este asiento frío,
y en el aliento último que envío,
perdón humilde haber de quien me ha muerto;
porque a tanta grandeza y hermosura
fue mi error temerario, y justa pena
la muerte, aunque menor que mis tormentos.
Mas nunca mi memoria será oscura;
que amor no siempre a olvido me condena,
pues muero osando grandes pensamientos.
