Osé subir con poca diestra suerte
al florido Helicón, y donde baña
el cristal de Ipocrene la campaña,
y Castalia las puras ondas vierte,
para alabar el pecho osado y fuerte
los grandes hechos que honran nuestra España;
mas no se debe a mí tan gran hazaña,
no es vencedor mi canto de la muerte.
Por no entregarme al ocio descuidado,
Antonio, escribo, y mi serena Estrella
voy con mis rudos versos ofuscando;
mas, si en sus vivos rayos inflamado
me veo, vos veréis en gloria de ella
honrando a España ir vuestro Fernando.
