Subo con tan gran peso quebrantado
por esta alta, empinada, aguda sierra,
que aun no llego a la cumbre cuando yerra
el pie y trabuco al fondo despeñado.

Del golpe y de la carga maltratado,
me alzo a pena y a mi antigua guerra
vuelvo ¿mas qué me vale? Que la tierra
misma me falta al curso acostumbrado.

Pero aunque en el peligro desfallezco
no desamparo el paso, que antes torno
mil veces a cansarme en este engaño.

Crece el temor y en la porfía crezco,
y sin cesar, cual rueda vuelve en torno,
así revuelvo a despeñarme al daño.
