Crece y alienta fiero en el nemeo
león, y imprime su furor presente,
y en el orbe terrestre esfuerza ardiente
las llamas el dañoso Iperioneo.

Y cuando amor, ingrato a mi deseo,
descubre en su león más inclemente
los rayos, acabar indignamente
mi estéril esperanza triste veo.

Abrasa el corazón, do nunca el frío
tuvo lugar, ¡ay, oh dolor penoso,
a quien otro ninguno es semejante!

No puede amortiguar el llanto mío
este incendio; que el Betis espumoso
ni todo el grande Océano es bastante.
