Alfonso, vuestro noble y grave canto,
con quien de eternos giros la armonía
asuena, celebrar de la luz mía
debiera la belleza que honro y canto;
que yo la dura fuerza de mi llanto
muestro, y mal fiero y la ponzoña fría,
y el bien que a mi esperanza se desvía,
cuando en cuitoso son la voz levanto.
No que a mi nombre humilde diera gloria,
que ya osa alzar igual por vos la frente,
a quien ilustra el Arno, grato al cielo;
mas estimar si puedo esta memoria
verá el ilustre reino de Occidente
cuánto en vuestra alabanza ensalzo el vuelo.
