Yo bien pensaba, cuando el desdén justo
refrió en duro hielo el fuego ardiente
del corazón, y con osada frente
se opuso contra Amor fiero y robusto,
que no bastara a derribarme el gusto
ni a torcerme el intento otro accidente,
que ya me conocía diferente
y libre de un tirano tan injusto.
Mas al primer sonido del asalto
desamparo la fuerza y el escudo
rindo y armas, temblando antes del hecho.
Bien sé que en lo que debo a la honra falto,
mas el temor, que de ella está desnudo,
y otra fuerza mayor vencen mi pecho.
