Puede oponerse, osando, mi cuidado
con razón al rigor del amor fiero,
y de este afán en que penando muero
buscar tarde el remedio no hallado.

Puede traer la culpa del pasado
error, y del presente y del que espero,
y darme a conocer que sigo y quiero
y amo mi perdición más obstinado.

Y no podrá romper el nudo estrecho
ni aliviar la cerviz del grave peso;
que tal valor su vil temor no encierra.

Sólo me muestra el mal al fin del hecho,
y aconseja que huya estando preso,
porque me haga el impío mayor guerra.
