Aunque el dolor que la alma triste oprime
no deja respirar al buen deseo,
si tal vez descargado el peso veo,
y el duro afán que menos me lastime,
podrá ser, por ventura, que se estime
mi canto igual con el del tracio Orfeo,
y que el sacro furor del gran Timbreo
en la celeste cumbre me sublime.
Entonces, cuando ya vencida incline
la envidia, entre los pocos que sostiene
mostrará vuestro nombre la memoria;
y allí el valor y el corazón insigne
vuestro honrarán las musas de Hiprocrene,
del hesperio león oh excelsa gloria.
