Junto a su Venus, tierna y bella, estaba
todo orgulloso Marte, horrible y fiero,
cubierto de un templado y fino acero
que un claro espejo al sol de sí formaba;
y, mientras ella atenta en él notaba
sangre y furor, con rostro lastimero,
un beso encarecido al gran guerrero
fijó en la frente y de él toda colgaba.
Del precioso coral tan blando efeto
salió que al fiero dios del duro asunto
hizo olvidar con nuevo, ardiente celo.
¡Oh, fuerza extraña!, ¡oh, gran poder secreto,
que puede un solo beso en solo un punto
los dioses aplacar, dar ley al cielo!
