- XXII -

Nuevo cielo mudar Niso quería
hacia los rayos de su luz primera,
cuando lloroso y triste a la ribera
de Arno Damón, su amigo, le decía:
«Sabe el cielo, pastor, si juzgaría
por menor mal perder hato y ternera
y nunca ver sabrosa primavera,
antes que ausente verte el alma mía.
Tus años goces, Niso, y, sin cuidados
que descubran en ti vario accidente,
vivas alegre, venturoso y sano».
Esto dijo Damón, cuando abrazados
los pechos se bañaron juntamente,
diciendo: «Adiós, amigo», «Adiós, hermano».
