Las musas en venta

¿Hay quién quiera comprar nueve doncellas
esclavas. o a lo menos desterradas
de las tierras do fueron engendradas?
¿Hay quién las compre? ¿Quién da más por ellas?

Fueron un tiempo en todo extremo bellas,
airosas, ricas, graves y estimadas;
y aunque de mucho fueron recuestadas,
bien pocos alcanzaron favor de ellas.

Ahora van las tristes mendigando
de puerta en perta, rotas y baldías,
y aun por solo el comer se venderían.

Pues no son muy golosas; que en hallando
hierbas, flores u hojas, pasarían
con sombras frescas y con aguas fría.
