Después que no descubren su lucero
mis ojos lagrimosos noche y día,
llevado del error, sin vela y guía,
navego por un mar amargo y fiero.
El deseo, la ausencia, el carnicero
recelo, y de la ciega fantasía
las olas más furiosas a porfía
me llevan al peligro postrimero.
Aquí una voz me dice: «Cobre aliento,
señora, con la fe que me habéis dado,
y en mil y mil maneras repetido.»
«Mas ¿cuánto de esto allá llevado ha el viento?»
respondo; y a las olas entregado,
el puerto desespero, el fondo piso.
